Jim Citrin

James M. Citrin leads Spencer Stuart’s Global Technology, Communications and Media practice and is a member of the firm’s worldwide board of directors. He is also a member of the firm’s Board Services practice. Citrin has recruited some of the top CEOs, presidents, and board directors including the CEOs and/or presidents of Yahoo!, America Online, Vodafone, Eastman Kodak, Discovery Communications, The Reader’s Digest Association, Gruner + Jahr Publishing USA, Penguin Publishing, The Financial Times North America, L.L. Prior to joining Spencer Stuart in 1994, Citrin was director of corporate planning at The Reader’s Digest Association, served as senior engagement manager with McKinsey & Company in the United States and France, was an associate with Goldman Sachs & Company and a financial analyst with Morgan, Stanley & Co.

A 1981 graduate of Vassar College, Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.A. in economics, Citrin serves as a member of the Vassar board of trustees. He earned an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, graduating with distinction in 1986. He is on the board of the Harvard Business School Club of New York.

Citrin lives in Connecticut with his wife, Gail, and their three children Teddy, Oliver and Lily.

Rick Smith

Richard A. Smith is a respected author, thought leader and search practitioner with Spencer Stuart. Smith has extensive experience recruiting CEOs, COOs and board directors as well as top sales and marketing executives for public and private companies across North America. In addition, he has expertise in management appraisal and assessment services and has developed best-practice processes and methodologies utilized across the firm.

Smith is the author of the widely cited CEO study and white paper Top Tier Talent: Investment Strategies for Human Capital. He contributes a biannual feature article for the Venture Capital Review and is the co-creator of Spencer Stuart’s Human Capital Market Index (HCMI). He has published numerous articles on leadership, organizational performance, competitive strategy, management assessment/recruitment and professional career development.

Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Smith held senior positions with Diamond Cluster International and strategy and business development positions with EDS in the United States and central and eastern Europe.

Smith is the founder of 21st Century Atlanta, a founding board member of TechBridge and previously served on the regional boards of the American Cancer Society and the Children’s Museum of Atlanta.

Smith obtained an M.B.A. in marketing and strategy from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.S. in finance from the University of Florida. He is also a Certified Management Accountant. Moonlighting as a semiprofessional singer/songwriter, Smith has written and recorded more than 100 songs.

He lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife, Lori Smith, and their three children Arden, Adam, and Laine.
